The main character is Don Gomez del la Vega, a nobleman in service of his king battling the Moors. In the midst of a campaign, he and his son, the gallant knight, Don Leon, both fall in love with the beautiful Juanna, daughter of a merchant, who had pledged her hand in marriage to Don Gomez.
